NEW: Poll Shows Matt Mahan Gaining Ground and With a Clear Path to the Runoff
SAN JOSÉ - Today, the Matt Mahan for California campaign released a new poll conducted by Impact Research showing that the big city mayor has moved into a top spot and has a clear path to the runoff.
The poll puts Mahan in third place among Democratic candidates at 8%, behind only Porter at 14% and Steyer at 16%, but with significantly more capacity for introduction and growth than either of the current leading candidates. Once voters are introduced to Mahan, he’s the clear leading Democrat with 20% of the vote, more than double the vote share of Steyer or Porter.
“Our polling confirms what anyone who’s met Mayor Matt already knows: they just need to get to know him. His working-class background, his proven record of results, and his character resonate — because he’s lived the California Dream. And he’s running to make sure every Californian can too.” Tasha Dean, Mahan’s spokesperson.
The data also shows that voters are moved by Matt’s working-class background – especially that he grew up living paycheck to paycheck, raised by his Dad, a mailman, and his Mom, a teacher, who inspired Matt to become a middle-school teacher in San Jose. That background is highlighted in a new ad launched today titled “All The Good,” which features Mahan describing his vision for California. The ad is running statewide on digital platforms and in the San Francisco media market on broadcast as part of a $3M buy.
